Sarah Mustafa Marriage & Family Therapist Associate [email protected] Schedule: Contact me for current availability |
Hello, I am Sarah Mustafa. I am delighted that you found the courage to consider what could be your first brave step to seeing a different perspective for change in your life. I am a Marriage and Family Therapy Associate registered in Oregon (#R7495). I earned my master's degree in Marriage, Couples, and Family Therapy from Lewis & Clark College and a Bachelor's in Psychology from Portland State University. I utilize Narrative therapy, emotional-focused therapy, and solution-focused therapy with individuals, families, and couples.
As a therapist, I like for potential clients to know that therapy will be challenging but rewarding. Therefore, I hope to co-create an inviting space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings and develop practical tools to navigate life’s challenges. My mission is to provide you with a safe and nurturing environment where you can freely express yourself, find comfort in vulnerability, and explore the depths of your emotions.
I have always had a strong interest in relationships and what it takes to make them work. I come from a big family with many siblings and parents from two different cultures. So I have grown up with an ongoing urge to learn how to navigate multiple relationships and be a part of two different cultures. Relationships of all kinds can be tricky and sources of exceptional joy and significant discomfort. Working with families and couples to connect well and finding comfort with differences has been rewarding work. I support individuals to learn to have the courage to speak their truth with honesty and compassion. Feelings are complex. Creating understanding for people to create authentic conversations and emotionally healthy relationships can make room for connecting better to find a solution. As a multiracial person of color (Saudi Arabian and Black American), I cherish culture's uniqueness in people's lives. Being from a cultural background has allowed me to be sensitive to cultural diversity and appreciate all cultures regardless of how it differs from my own. Additionally, as a Saudi native, I am partially fluent in Arabic and provide therapy in Arabic.
I offer individual, couple, and family therapy. My style is interactive, cultural, empathic, warm, direct, and intuitive. I share the premise that human behavior occurs within family, social, and cultural contexts. Additionally, I have a multicultural approach that bridges cultures of all kinds allowing for understanding and sensitivity to help clients feel more comfortable being understood and validated in their experience. Finally, I know the importance of understanding how race, gender, social class, sexual orientation, abilities, language, country of origin, and other social identities/locations intersect to maintain systems of power and privilege within couples, families, and communities. With that, I value a therapy that is non-pathologizing, non-blaming, and sees clients as experts in their own lives. So, as your therapist, my motto is to be your co-pilot to help support clients in increasing their self-compassion and self-confidence to achieve the life goals they desire.
